A lot of people believe that a leaf-sprung 4WD vehicle acquires its "ride" through the deflection of the spring arch (up & down) to absorb the impact of the terrain.
While this is partly true, the majority of a spring’s ability to absorb the impact of changes in terrain is from the pivoting action of the shackle (back and forth), as the vehicle is moving along.
